Frequently asked

Do I need an account to use SHIFT?

No. The core Urge and Calm tools work without an account — your data stays on your device. An account is only needed if you want to sync across devices or use premium features.

How does the Urge button work?

When a craving hits, hold the URGE button. You name the trigger, follow a science-backed 4-4-6 breathing pattern, and the urge passes. Every urge you outlast is tracked as part of your streak.

What is Calm Mode?

Calm Mode has 30+ guided tools for everyday stress, anxiety, focus and sleep — box breathing, the physiological sigh, 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, a 2-minute Panic SOS, body scans and more.

Is my data private?

Yes. SHIFT is private by default. Core features run on your device, the community is anonymous, and we never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. To view, change or cancel, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, select SHIFT, and choose your option. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the paid period.

How do I restore a purchase?

If you reinstalled the app or switched devices, open the app’s paywall and tap “Restore Purchases”. Your active subscription tied to your Apple ID will be restored.

Does SHIFT work offline?

Yes. The Urge and Calm tools are designed to work without a connection, so help is there in the moment — even on airplane mode or with no signal.

How do I delete my data or account?

You can clear on-device data in the app’s Settings. To delete a synced account and its data entirely, email us at hello@join-shift.com and we’ll handle it promptly.

In a crisis?

SHIFT is a self-help tool, not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out to a professional right now:

  • Emergency: call your local emergency number (e.g. 112 in the EU, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK).
  • US: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
  • UK & ROI: call Samaritans on 116 123.
  • Germany: Telefonseelsorge 0800 111 0 111.
  • International directory: findahelpline.com
